Nvidia's upcoming GH100 Hopper HPC accelerator has aroused quite the interest owing to recent leaks. First, it was the rumored massive die area close to 1000 mm square and now, it is the massive 140 billion transistor count. It is not yet clear how Nvidia would achieve such a high transistor density on the 5 nm package, but it is likely that Hopper will include both monolithic and multi-chip module (MCM) architectures and cater independently to HPC and DL workloads.
Tipster @ExecuFix revealed what appear to be details for the upcoming AMD Instinct MI250W GPU. The MCM-based card will reportedly feature 110 CUs running at 1.7 GHz, 128GB of HBM2 memory, and a 500W TDP.
According to new rumours, AMD will be upping its GPU game massively with its next-generation cards. Apparently, Navi 31 will be the first chiplet-based GPU and one that delivers up to 160 CUs, or 10,240 stream processors. The RDNA 3 GPU may offer around 37 TFLOPs of FP32 performance, too.
Unconfirmed rumors earlier in the year indicated that Nvidia was working on a next-gen MCM GPU architecture called Hopper. A US Trademark filing for "Nvidia Hopper" by the company indicates that these rumors may indeed be true.
The upcoming AMD RDNA 3 Navi 31-based RX 7900 XT will be based on a 5 nm + 6 nm MCM and could use a 256-bit memory bus but stick to GDDR5 VRAM. Navi 33 (RX 7700 XT) will be a 6 nm monolithic die with 128-bit GDDR6 VRAM and offer more performance than the current RX 6900 XT. The Nvidia Lovelace AD102 RTX 4090 will continue to use 384-bit GDDR6X memory and have GPU clocks greater than 2.2 GHz.
NVIDIA recently unveiled its 2021-2025 roadmap for the datacenter segment. The roadmap indicates that an Ampere successor, likely Lovelace, could arrive next year, with a new GPU architecture beyond that set to arrive before 2024.
China's plan to crash the Bitcoin value appears to have backfired as the crypto coin is back to its values recorded before the crypto mining ban. On top of that, most of the Bitcoin hashing power was relocated from China to other states, helping the U.S. become the leading hashrate provider.
